Sandra Lee Schmidt, Age 86
Sandra Lee Schmidt, age 86, of Minnesota, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of strength, resilience, and unconditional love. She was born on April 4, 1940, in River Falls, WI, to Clifford and Hazel Lehmann. She graduated from Spring Valley, WI, High School In 1958.
Sandra was married and later widowed, choosing to remain independent and strong on her own. She was the proud mother of two daughters: Brenda Lee Salas, who preceded her in death on October 22, 2018, and her surviving daughter, Christine Johnson.
She is remembered by her seven grandchildren: Angelo Lee Salas and his wife Kesone Denise Salas; Carmelo Salas and his wife Tiffany Salas; Latisha Burston; Bianca Burston; Rayeisha Eason; Jenasiah Johnson; and Kiara Eason. She also leaves behind six great grandchildren; Angelo Jr. Salas, Alayla Salas, Sa’Corah Salas, Nayamia Elaine Burston, Aamiiyah Lee Burston, and Anavi Tenner. She is further survived by her sister, Aunt Pat, and her cousin, Marlys.
Sandra - known to many as Sandy or simply Grandma – was so much more than a mother and grandmother. She was a friend, a steady presence, and a woman who lived life on her own terms. She loved her independence and carried herself with strength through every season of life.
She found joy in the simple things: her morning coffee (often with something sweet), cooking and baking for her family, and her Dr. Pepper. Her carrot cake was unmatched, and no one could ever quite recreate the taste of her home-cooked meals – whether it was hamburger and potatoes or goulash. It was always better when Grandma made it.
Sandy loved watching the news and her soap operas, working on hidden word books, playing cards – especially rummy – and enjoying a good game of bingo. She had a lifelong connection with public transit, riding the bus and walking wherever she needed to go. Even as she slowed down, she never lost her desire to get up and move.
She had a special love for decorating her home for every holiday, always excited to share her latest finds. She also had a well-known collection of salt and pepper shakers – so much so that family and friends would think of her anytime they saw a set. She loved her plants and had a natural green thumb.
Sandy cherished her family deeply. She showed her love through giving – whether it was a meal, a thoughtful gift, or a card. If it was your birthday, you could always count on receiving a card from Grandma, often with a little something tucked inside.
She was known for her honesty and her independence – she said what she meant and lived life her way. One of her most memorable saying was, “I don’t eat too much,” something she would say with a smile, especially during family meals.
Sandra was truly a survivor. She faced life’s challenges head-on – through illness, hospital stays, loss, and hardship – but she never gave up. Her strength was unwavering and she continued to move forward no matter what life brought her way.
She is now reunited with her daughter Brenda and her mother, Hazel. While she is no longer physically with us, her spirit, strength, and love will live on inn all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Her laughter, her generosity, and her one-of-a-kind spirit will remain with her family and all who loved her forever. |
Glenna Julienne Gunderson, Age 79
Glenna Julienne Gunderson, aged 79, of Eagle, WI, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 18, 2026, at Lake Country Medical Services in Oconomowoc, WI. Born to Walter L. and Grace A. Hansen on November 27, 1946, in Baldwin, WI, Glenna lived a life defined by kindness, resilience, and a deep devotion to those she loved. She was raised in Spring Valley, WI where she graduated from High School (1965) before attending UW-Eau Claire. During her college years, she was a proud member of the women’s basketball team, sparking a competitive spirit that remained a hallmark of her personality
On October 29, 1966, Glenna married the love of her life, Bruce, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley. Their journey together took them across the country during Bruce’s service in the United States Air Force, with stops in Illinois and Colorado before she returned to Wisconsin during his deployment to Vietnam. Whether they were settling in Brodhead, making a long term home in Waupaca, or enjoying their retirement years in Eagle, Glenna remained the steady heart of the family.
She often said her greatest joy was being married, being home, and raising her children as a most patient mother. She extended this natural gift for nurturing into her role as an in-home daycare provider for the children of local teachers in Waupaca.
Glenna was a woman of many talents and passions. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and quilting, often collaborating with Bruce to put the finishing touches on his woodworking projects. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, famous for Christmas cookies, the tradition of Norwegian lefse, her favorite Thanksgiving lemon meringue pie, and the hearty casseroles that brought her family to the table. Beyond the home, her competitive nature shone through in the Waupaca City Recreation leagues, where she was a formidable presence in volleyball and tennis. She was notoriously the first person at the card table during family holidays, ready for a high stakes game of Hearts, Euchre, or Liverpool.
Central to Glenna’s life was her deep, unwavering faith in Jesus, her Lord and Savior. Awoman of prayer and a studious reader of the Bible, she was a dedicated servant at church, participating in leadership roles and various committees. She possessed a lovely soprano voice and took great joy in singing hymns and leading robust, heartfelt family prayers at holiday gatherings and weddings. This faith served as her anchor over two decades of health challenges, including numerous brain surgeries and metastatic cancer. Despite these trials, which largely diminished her independence, Glenna never complained or made her struggle the focus. She remained remarkably positive, always giving thanks and famously insisting she felt “wonderful” even when her circumstances clearly suggested otherwise. Bruce routinely and lovingly called her his warrior.
Known for her warm hugs and a quick sense of humor, Glenna had the ability to make everyone feel at home. Despite having strong opinions, she rarely focused on herself; instead she spent her energy recognizing the needs of others. Her wisdom and gentle spirit touched countless lives, and her legacy of compassion will continue to guide her family for generations to come. Though her hands and heart are now at rest, her love still wraps around us, soft as a whisper, bright as the morning sun.
Glenna is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Bruce, and their three children, Christine (Mark) Kienbaum of Plover, WI, Ginger (William) Conkright of Bozeman, MT, and Craig (Jennie) Gunderson of Grafton, WI. She is further survived by her eight grandchildren, Lindsey (Logan) Murphy, Hannah (Gary) Flanery, Jack Kienbaum, Luke LaCosse, Gabi LaCosse, Bruce T. Gunderson, Lydia Gunderson, and Maren Gunderson; her great-grandson, Micah Murphy; her brother, Winston (Judi) Hansen of Minnetonka, MN; and her sister, Mary Ellen (Robert) Peterson of Frederic, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents and her parents-in-law, Oscar and Thelma Gunderson.
A visitation and funeral service will be held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 211 Main Street, Mukwonago, WI, on Friday, May 1, 2026. Visitation will take place from 9:00am to 11:00am, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00am. Guests are warmly invited to stay for a luncheon immediately following the service. Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by Gibson Funeral Home, Eagle, WI The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the medical teams that supported Glenna, including the staff at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, Dr. Aaron Siegel and Dr. Junwei Lui of Aurora Summit Health, and Dr. Philip Yazbek and Dr. Kelly Parnell of The Neuroscience Group, Neenah, WI. The family also took great comfort in the compassionate care provided by Lake Country Health Services and North Shore Hospice in Oconomowoc, WI, during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be directed to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic in Summit, WI, to support the team that provided Glenna with exceptional care. Please visit the Aurora Health Care Foundation to give directly and indicate your donation is a memorial gift. |

Mary (Hyde) Richardson, Age 80
Mary (Hyde) Richardson, age 80, formerly of Baldwin, died peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from complications of a stroke. She had been residing at Woodland Hill Presbyterian Homes in Hudson.
Mary was born on May 19, 1945, and grew up on a dairy farm outside Hammond as the fourth of five children born to the late Ronald and Honor Hyde. From an early age, she showed a natural curiosity in learning. At just three years old, she could recite all 50 states and capitals—a feat never surpassed within the family and one Honor used as an inspiration for future generations. She graduated as salutatorian from St. Croix Central High School in 1963 and went on to earn a degree in Secondary Education (Math and Chemistry) from UW-River Falls, later a certificate in Computer Science.
At UW-River Falls, she became reacquainted with Donald Richardson ('61) of Spring Valley whom she had first met during high school at the Baldwin Dairy Queen. Mary and Don were married a few years later in August 1966 with children Angie and Chris following in the 1970s.
Mary greatly enjoyed her career as a high school math teacher, spending most of those years at her alma mater. Many of her former students likely have her to thank for their math skills, and perhaps for a few “character-building” lessons on integrity as well. While her high standards could be demanding, they were rooted in her desire to see her students succeed and leave them better prepared for the future. Angie and Chris can certainly attest to that.
While teaching at St. Croix Central, Mary built a wonderful circle of lifelong friends, sharing summer evenings on the golf course and year-round gatherings. Later, at Woodland Hill, she was again blessed with a community of friends and caregivers who showed her immense kindness and kept her mind sharp at the bridge table.
Mary approached life with quiet determination. A woman of many talents, she enjoyed reading, baking, crocheting, golfing, and spending time with her grandchildren. Mary wasn’t always good at asking for help and, later in life, faced difficulties related to alcohol. In her memory, please help reduce the stigma that weighs heavily on those seeking help and on their loved ones.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Don; her parents; and her brother, Jim Hyde.
She is survived by her children, Angie (Derek) Hubbard and Chris (Jaime) Richardson; and her grandchildren: Emily, Sarah, Anna, Logan, Dylan, and Ella. She is also survived by her siblings, Colleen (the late Bill) Evenson, Bill (Mary) Hyde, and Jack (the late Anne) Hyde, along with many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to gather in Mary’s memory on Wednesday, July 1 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hammond. A Prayer Service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Woodland Hill Presbyterian Homes, St Croix County ADRC, or an addiction recovery center of your choosing. |

Sharon was born to Charles Henry, Jr. and Floy (Bertelsen) Budd on February 25, 1941, in Minneapolis. She was the youngest of six children, the only girl and loved her brothers dearly. Sharon’s life was dedicated to God, family and community.
Sharon’s education started at Spring Valley Wisconsin Public School, graduating in the class of 1958. In her high school years she was active in band, choir and cheerleading. It was during this time that Sharon and Richard started dating. They married after high school and together raised their family of three. They balanced work, family and school while Richard worked and pursued his college education. She continued her education later at Granite Falls Technical College where she earned a legal secretarial degree, followed by attending Willmar Community College, where she earned an associate degree. Sharon wholeheartedly believed in the power of education. She worked at law offices in Olivia, the Renville County Hospital and as Activity Director at the Olivia Nursing Home, and ran her Christian bookstore in Sauk Centre for several years.
Sharon’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. It fueled her desire to serve, sing, and spread the faith. An avid reader and lover of nature, Sharon found solace in the pages of scripture and the beauty of God’s creations. Her green thumb blossomed in her gardens in Olivia and lake place in Sauk Centre (that they called Shalom). Family camping trips, cooking, swimming, pontoon rides on the lake, and listening to the loons were among her favorite pastimes.
Sharon and Richard loved singing with the Benson Choraliers, Prairie Arts Chorale, and the Woodbury Chorus and Orchestra spanning more than 60 years. She volunteered her time to both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, accompanying the Girl Scouts to Washington D.C. in 1975. She loved to travel and visited many of the Minnesota parks, and relatives near and far, and in 2002 achieved a lifelong dream of traveling to Switzerland with the Woodbury Chorus and Orchestra where they toured and performed.
Sharon was a proud and supportive grandmother who enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow, rarely missing an opportunity to watch a concert, sporting event, play, or visiting with them over the phone. Sharon's love for singing resonated through to her great grandchildren, as it was always a custom to sing a song together before parting ways.
Sharon is joining her parents, Charles “Doc” and Floy “Ma”; Richard’s parents, Forrest and Carol Alton; and brothers: Charles Henry Budd III, Galen, Bertel, Ronald, and Harold Budd in heaven. She is remembered by her husband of 66 years, Richard; her children: Kenneth (Stephanie), Richard Jr. (Sandy), and daughter, Jamie (Paul); along with her grandchildren: Nicholas, Jenna, Thomas, Brian, Jennifer, Timothy, Mallory, and Paul; and her 13 great-grandchildren, who will remember her love, and faith.
As we bid farewell to Sharon, we celebrate the life she lived full of music, family and faith. |
